Québec-Catalonia Cooperation Program (2008-2015)

Since 1996, the governments of Québec and Catalonia have been involved in the Québec-Catalonia Joint Committee, which provides for various cooperation projects between the two administrations. Consult the website of the Ministère des Relations internationales on this subject.

Within the context of the Québec-Catalonia Joint Committee, the Directeur général des élections du Québec has participated from 2008 to 2014 in a project entitled electoral process experience and expertise exchange in collaboration with the Àrea de Processos Electorals of Catalonia.

These exchanges allowed the two organizations to share their experience and expertise in various fields related to the electoral process, including political financing, electoral operations and the specifics of the electoral legislation in Québec and in Catalonia, and comparing practices in both administrations.

In addition to these exchanges, the DGEQ and Catalonia have taken part in election observation programs. In 2010, the DGEQ attended a visitors program of the Ministry of Public Administration and Governance for Catalonia’s parliamentary elections of November 28.

The DGEQ hosted, from November 1 to 3, 2013, a Catalan delegation headed by Ms Joana Ortega i Alemany, Vice President of the Generalitat of Catalonia and Minister of Governance and Institutional Relations in the context of the municipal elections of November 3, 2013.
