By-elections of May 12, 2008 – Postal ballot for electors temporarily absent from Québec
Québec City, April 9, 2008 –– The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, would like to inform electors of the electoral divisions of Bourget, Hull and Pointe-aux-Trembles that they can register for the postal ballot right away if they will be outside Québec on polling day or during the advance poll scheduled on May 4 and 5, 2008.

Revision of the Québec Electoral Map. The Commission de la représentation électorale publishes its Program for 2008

Québec City, January 22, 2008 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec and chair of the Commission de la représentation électorale (CRE), Me Marcel Blanchet, has published the Commission's program for 2008, a process that will culminate in the revision of the Québec electoral map in order to ensure the fair and equitable representation of electors, taking into account population growth or decline in certain regions. Pursuant to the Election Act, the electoral map must be revised after every two elections. The last revision was done in 2001.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec Publishes the Financial Reports of Provincial Political Parties

Québec City, November 19, 2007 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, announces the publication today of the financial reports of provincial political parties of Québec for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2006. In accordance with the provisions of the Election Act, the deadline for filing financial reports was postponed to September 22, 2007 for parties, while it was set at July 26th for other authorized bodies and entities, due to the general elections of March 26, 2007. The Chief Electoral Officer presents the financial reports in a document of over 1,000 pages that also contains information on the financial situations of the provincial political parties.

Financing of Quebec Political Parties - The Think Tank on the Financing of Political Parties Proposes the Reinforcement of Rules on Soliciting Contributions and Election Expenses in Québec

Québec City, November 1, 2007 – In a report published today, the Think Tank created on the initiative of the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec to review political financing has proposed various measures aimed at reinforcing the system for authorizing and financing parties, Members and independent candidates. Greater accountability by the various actors, broader powers for the Chief Electoral Officer, the clarification of certain rules and the addition of new ones, greater transparency, as well as better information of the various stakeholders in an election are some of the strategies proposed to make financing rules more effective.

Publication of the summary of returns of election expenses for the general elections of March 26, 2007

Québec City, October 18, 2007 –– The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, has published the Summary of Election Expenses of the parties and candidates that participated in the 2006 general elections held on March 26, 2007. The figures that appear in this summary were obtained from the returns of election expenses submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer by the official agents of the parties and candidates concerned.
