Voter I.D. card – Report of the Chief Electoral Officer
The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec today tabled his study on a digitized Voter I.D. card with a photo. The report, which deals not only with the feasibility of such a card but also its advisability, concludes that it would be premature at this stage to go ahead with a Voter I.D. card project.

Based on the results of the feasibility study that he has carried out over the past few months and the consultations made, the Chief Electoral Officer makes four recommendations to the National Assembly. The first recommendation seeks to postpone, at least for the time being, a Voter I.D. card project.

Within the context of the by-elections that will be held in the electoral divisions of Blainville, Jonquière, Labelle and Laviolette on October 1st, Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, announces that a total of 597 polling stations spread out in 122 polling places will be open between 9:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on polling day.

During this period, revision offices will be open every day between 11 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
