Delimitation of electoral divisions

The election of school commissioners ensures electors representation within the school board. The commissioners represent the electors of a specific electoral division, delimited by the school board according to the criteria found in the Act respecting School elections (sections 7.1 and 7.2 of Act).

The number of electoral divisions of a school board varies from 9 to 27, according to the number of electors. Under some circumstances, the Minister of Education, Recreation and Sport can authorize a school board to establish two, four or six electoral divisions.
