The main organization responsible for the division of the municipal territory into electoral districts is the school board. The council of commissioners adopts a resolution for this purpose in the year that precedes the school general election. The Commission de la représentation électorale (CRE) may intervene in this process for two reasons:
- The resolution adopted by the council of commissioners does not comply with the deviations stipulated in the ASE to ensure a balance in the populations of the various electoral districts.
- There is an objection by electors, under the conditions stipulated in the Act, to the by-law adopted by the school board.
