The Commission de la représentation électorale holds a public consultation to hear from the electors, organizations and representatives of a municipality when a sufficient number of objections are received to a by-law for dividing the municipality into electoral districts.
The Commission also holds public consultations when a municipality fails to adopt such a by-law within the period provided for by the legislation. The Commission may then choose to introduce a new electoral map or to maintain the electoral divisions approved by the municipality.
The public consultations being held in 2020 will make it possible to draw up electoral maps for municipalities in preparation for the general elections scheduled for November 7, 2021. The consultations will be held in two parts: first, in writing, and then by videoconference and telephone.
