April 6, 2011

QuébecCity, April 6, 2011 – The referendum list for the April 27 referendum in Nunavik will be revised from April 11 to April 14. Every person who wishes to vote in the referendum on the Final Agreement concerning the creation of a regional government in Nunavik must be entered on the referendum list. Electors should therefore check to ensure that their names are on the list, and if necessary, take advantage of the revision period to register or correct their entry.

Electors may check their entries on the referendum list by contacting their local referendum returning officer. In the 14 Nunavik villages, the role of referendum returning officer is fulfilled by the municipal secretary-treasurers. People living outside Nunavik who are Inuit beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement should contact Ms. Sonia Gosselin-Alaku, the Montreal office local referendum returning officer, at 514 745-8880 or toll-free at 1 800 361-7052.

To register or correct an entry on the list, electors must go to the revision office in person. A parent, spouse or person living with the elector may apply on the elector’s behalf. Electors living outside Nunavik may also apply in writing to be entered on the referendum list, by contacting Ms. Sonia Gosselin-Alaku. In all cases, requests for entry on the list must be supported by two proofs of identity.

Electors who have lived in Nunavik for at least one year, or who live outside Nunavik but are Inuit beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement, may vote in the referendum.
