A guilty plea is entered following a violation of the AERM

May 15, 2012

Quebec City, May 14, 2012 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Jacques Drouin, wishes to inform the general public that a guilty plea was entered following a violation of the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities (AERM).

In Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Ketan Patel, while carrying out his duties as official representative of Navnit Patel, an independent candidate in the November 1, 2009 municipal election, neglected to transmit an additional financial report to the municipal treasurer by April 1, 2011. The report is required under the Act, in particular whenever independent candidates still have debts resulting from their election expenses at the time they transmit their financial report 90 days after polling.

On April 25, 2012, Mr. Patel forwarded to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer a guilty plea concerning one of the charges against him. He paid a fine of $500, plus costs.
