Election simulations

In connection with the 2021 municipal general elections, more than 450 schools and organizations registered for the Voters in Training program. As a result, more than 54,000 young people had the opportunity to participate in election simulations. The votes cast by these electors in training have been tallied and the results are now available on our website.

Find out if the youth in your municipality chose the same mayor as the adults!

As part of the Voters in Training Challenge, three schools or organizations that conducted election simulations and submitted the results to Élections Québec were randomly selected to receive a $500 prize. The lucky winners are:

  • École primaire Armand-Lavergne, in Montréal;
  • Collège Sainte-Anne de Lachine, in Montréal;
  • Maison des jeunes l’Entre-Temps, in Cap-Chat.

Congratulations to our three winners!

The Voters in Training program is designed to teach young people about exercising the right to vote by giving schools and youth organizations the chance to organize election simulations. This year’s election simulations took place from October 25 to November 5. The young participants were able to vote for mayoral candidates running in their municipality. Experiencing the election process firsthand helped them appreciate the importance of municipal democracy.

Small Virtual Polling Station

In your opinion, what is the most important quality a mayor should have? That’s what we asked the children who visited the Small Virtual Polling Station!

Most of them voted for open-mindedness. Clearly, young people think that mayors should listen to people and their ideas.

Children from municipalities across Québec were able to express themselves on this important issue by visiting the Small Virtual Polling Station. With help from their parents, the young participants were able to familiarize themselves with the different steps involved in the voting process: verifying your identity, filling out a ballot paper and placing the ballot paper in the ballot box.

Thanks to the Small Polling Station, this year’s municipal elections were a family affair!
