School elections of November 2, 2014 - Candidates spent more than $950,000 attempting to get elected
Quebec City, March 24, 2015 – An analysis of the financial reports and election expenses related to the school election of November 2, 2014, reveals that 814 of the 1,372 candidates authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec incurred election expenses totaling $956,000. To cover these expenses, they collected nearly $700,000 in contributions, mostly from themselves, in addition to borrowing a total of $318,000. These figures are taken from the Portrait sur le financement et les dépenses des candidats autorisés (Portrait of the financing and expenses of authorized candidates) released today by the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec. The document also presents various statistics on the candidacies, in which in particular it can be noted that 43% of those who ran in the school elections were women, and 57% of the candidates elected are between 45 and 64 years old, an age group that corresponds to 29% of the population.

Running in the Upcoming School Elections - Anyone who Wishes to Run can be Authorized Immediately
Québec City, January 15, 2014 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Jacques Drouin, would like to inform those who would like to run in the November 2 school elections that they can be authorized immediately by the returning officer of their school board. This authorization enables them especially to receive contributions or incur loans to finance their political activities. During the 2007 school general elections, candidates received a total of $747,000 in contributions incurred loans for a total of $336,000 and filed returns showing total election expenses of more than $1,045 million.

Consequence of a conviction for illegal financing - An initial set of names is entered in the register of persons barred from obtaining public contracts
Quebec City, June 17, 2013 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Jacques Drouin, wishes to inform the general public that information concerning natural and legal persons barred from obtaining public contracts due to an infringement of the financing rules as stipulated in Québec’s electoral legislation is now on record in the register designed for this purpose. The individuals in question have been notified in writing of this publication.
