Electoral participation in the April 7, 2014 general election - Stabilization of the participation rate in Québec
Quebec City, October 29, 2014 –– A study released today on the participation of Québec electors in the April 7, 2014 provincial election reveals a stabilization of the participation rate. For example, in 2014, the participation of young people reached a level comparable to the rates in 2003 and 2007. The decline in turnout of young people observed in 2008, which was reversed in 2012, did not reappear in 2014. The presence of young voters has helped stabilize the participation rate, which has generally been between 70% and 75 % since the 2003 general election.

Electoral case study concerning women and politics - The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec examines factors that might influence women to enter the political arena
Quebec City, October 9, 2014 –– In an electoral case study released today, the Chief Electoral Officer notes that after having experienced a gradual increase in the number and influence of women in provincial politics between1976 and 2003, Québec has, in the last 10 years, entered a period in which the percentage of female MNAs has stagnated, in spite of the holding of four general elections. As a contribution to discussions on this situation, the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec is outlining incentives and factors designed to help more women accede to elected positions.

Electoral participation in the 2012 Québec general elections - Electors aged 18 – 44 years old came back to the polling stations in large numbers during the last general election
Québec City, December 19, 2012 – If we compare with the 2008 general election, Québec electors aged from 18 to 44 returned to the ballot boxes in large numbers, during the September 4, 2012 vote. Looking at specific age cohorts, this increase in participation rate varied between 21% for the 35 to 44 year olds and nearly 26% for the 18 to 24 year olds. This observation is one of those coming out of a study made public today and is the fruit of collaboration between the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec and Université Laval’s Research Chair in Democracy and Parliamentary Institutions.
