Every two general elections, the Commission de la représentation électorale (CRE) must review the delimitation of electoral divisions to ensure the effective representation of electors at the Assemblée nationale.
On May 2, 2024, the Assemblée nationale du Québec adopted An Act to interrupt the electoral division delimitation process.
In this context, the electoral map delimitation process undertaken by the Commission de la représentation électorale has been suspended. Section 2 of this act stipulates that the CRE will resume its work after the general election scheduled for October 2026. Following this election, the CRE will have 12 months to table a preliminary report proposing new delimitations to the Assemblée nationale.
In the meantime, elected officials intend to review the delimitation criteria. By submitting the document Findings and considerations: revision of the electoral map (in French), the CRE wishes to contribute to these efforts.
If you wish to voice your opinion regarding the electoral map, please contact your MNA (member of the National Assembly).

This table provides the electoral population of each electoral division as well as the deviation from the provincial average of electors per electoral division.
As part of the electoral map revision process, the electoral population is rebalanced between divisions to ensure fair and equitable representation of electors.

Findings and considerations: revision of the electoral map, May 2024 (PDF – in French)
This document sets out various findings and considerations that the Commission de la représentation électorale examined based on suggestions and comments received following the tabling of its preliminary report in fall 2023. These elements would have formed part of the Commission’s second report, which was expected to be tabled in September 2024.
Work on the delimitation of electoral divisions was interrupted by the Assemblée nationale, which wishes to review the delimitation parameters and criteria. The analyses and simulations presented in this document are intended to contribute to the discussions of the elected officials.

One electoral division is added in the greater Laurentides and Lanaudière region, and another in the greater Estrie and Centre-du-Québec region. As a counterpart, one electoral division is withdrawn from the eastern part of île de Montréal, and another from the greater Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region. These short videos present the various reasons behind our proposal (in French).
The geographic data obtained through the interactive map were used to sustain the delimitation proposal of the Commission de la représentation électorale. This data will be kept until the next electoral map is adopted.

The Commission de la représentation électorale held public hearings in several regions of Québec. During these hearings, 186 people expressed comments and suggestions regarding the electoral boundaries proposed in the preliminary report. In addition, 38 people took the floor during the study of the preliminary report by the Commission de l’Assemblée nationale on February 13, 14 and 15, 2024.
