Nomination papers must be filed during the first weeks of the election period. The final list of candidates is released two weeks before election day.

The nomination period runs from 2:00 p.m. [jour -32] to 2:00 p.m. [jour -16].
Nominations for the municipal general elections are posted here as they are received by the returning officer of each municipality. Candidates elected without opposition will be announced at a later date.
Information showcase and ballot papers with photos
During the 2025 general municipal election, two pilot projects enable municipalities to facilitate access to voting for electors. If your municipality participates, you may have access to a showcase of information on candidates. You could also vote on a ballot paper with a photograph of the candidates. To find out more, contact your municipality.
Under the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities, a general municipal election is held in all Québec municipalities every four years, on the first Sunday of November.
The next general municipal election in Québec will be held in November 2025. The list of candidates for all municipalities will be available here.
In certain situations, a general election may be held in a municipality before the end of the four-year cycle. For example, when two municipalities merge, all positions must be reopened to form the municipal council.
