Public Notice – Intention of Withdrawal of Authorization

30 April 2021

Categories: Investigations and prosecutions, Parties and other political entities, Provincial

The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec proposes to withdraw the authorization of the Parti libre, a provincial political party, in accordance with section 68 of the Election Act (CQLR, Chapter E-3.3), on the following grounds:

  • The official representative of the party filed false financial reports and false vouchers, in violation of Division V of Chapter II of Title III of the Election Act, thereby failing to uphold its obligations with respect to financial accounting and reporting and to uphold one of the principles of political financing management, namely that of transparency.
  • With public funding being granted for each contribution received up to $250,000, any false political financing reporting, as part of a scheme, is contrary to the public interest.

If you have any comments or arguments you wish to share concerning the withdrawal of this party’s authorization, please submit them in writing no later than 4:30 p.m. on May 14, 2021, by e-mail, at [email protected], or by mail, at the following address:
