Filing the report on the application of the special provisions

14 March 2023

Categories: General election, Provincial, Voting

We have tabled the report on the application of the special provisions introduced by the Act to foster voting in the next general election in Québec in the Assemblée nationale on March 14, 2023.

This Act introduced various measures to ensure that the October 3, 2022, provincial general election could be held safely in the context of the transmission of COVID-19.

It included two main measures:

  • Expanding voting by mail to two new categories of electors.
  • Holding mobile boards of revisors and mobile polling stations in residential facilities and at an elector’s domicile.

Under section 25 of the Act, Élections Québec was required to produce a detailed report on the application of these special provisions and to submit it to the Secretary General of the Assemblée nationale. This report provides a comprehensive assessment of the implementation of the measures introduced by the Act, which were intended to foster the right to vote in the October 3, 2022, provincial general election in the context of the transmission of COVID-19.

Overall, this legislation helped electors to exercise their right to vote in an uncertain public health situation. It also made the organization of the election more predictable.
