Municipal by-elections postponed again

6 May 2020

Categories: By-election, Municipal

On May 1, Québec’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Andrée Laforest, announced that the 43 municipal by-elections scheduled for March and April 2020 would be postponed until June 26, 2020 (in French). In her initial announcement on this topic on March 13 , the Minister had postponed the by‑election date until April 26.

As a result, the municipal election process will not be kicking off until June 26. Québec’s Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MAMH) will re-evaluate the situation in June.

The Élections Québec and MAMH teams continue to work closely on a number of municipal election issues. However, the MAMH is solely responsible for decisions to hold or postpone elections.
