170 polling stations will be open on polling day

 

Québec City, September 8, 2010 –– As part of the by-election to be held in the Saint-Laurent electoral division on Monday, September 13 next, Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Québec’s Chief Electoral Officer, has announced that a total of 170 polling stations, divided among 19 voting places, will be open between 9:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. All the polling stations may be accessed by disabled people.

Special revision and advance poll in the Saint-Laurent electoral division

Québec City, September 3, 2010 – Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Québec’s Chief Electoral Officer, reminds electors who need to do so that they may take advantage of the special revision and the advance poll for the by-election of September 13 next in the electoral division of Saint-Laurent. The special revision will take place on September 1 to 9 next, and the advance poll on September 5 and 6.

5 persons have filed their nomination papers in the electoral division of Saint-Laurent

 

Québec, August 28, 2010 –– A total of 5 nomination papers have been accepted by the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec for the upcoming September 13th by-election in the electoral division of Saint-Laurent. The period for filing nomination papers came to a close at 2 p.m. today.

Various options are available to electors to exercise their right to vote

 

Québec, August 20, 2010 – Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, would like to remind electors that various options are available to them to exercise their right to vote, in preparation for the September 13th by-election in the electoral division of Saint-Laurent. Mr. Blanchet also wishes to recall that one of the prerequisites to be able to exercise their right to vote is to be entered on the list of electors. Electors will thus be able to vote on polling day or take advantage of advance polling.

Political contributions and election expenses: there are rules that must be followed

 

Québec, August 12, 2010 – Within the context of the upcoming September 13th by-election in the electoral division of Saint-Laurent, Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, would like to remind electors and candidates about the main rules found in the Election Act regarding political contributions and the control of election expenses. As for the rules concerning election expenses, they apply starting today, August 12, 2010, until the close of polling stations on September 13th of this year.

Voting by mail for electors who are temporarily absent from Québec

 

Québec, August 12, 2010 –– Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, wishes to inform the electors of the electoral division of Saint-Laurent that they can register effective immediately to vote by mail if they expect to be outside Québec on polling day or during advance polling, namely on September 5 and 6, 2010, and if they are unable to take advantage of the five days of voting at the office of the returning officer on September 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9, 2010.

The Chief Electoral Officer publishes the financial reports of provincial political parties for 2009

Québec, June 21, 2010 –– Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, today announces the publication of the financial reports of Québec’s political parties for the  fiscal year ended on December 31, 2009. In accordance with the provisions of the Election Act, the deadline for filing financial reports for 2009 for political parties was April 30th of this year, whereas it was April 1st for authorities and other authorized entities. The Chief Electoral Officer presents these reports in a document with over 900 pages which also contains information on the financial position of provincial political parties. To learn more about the financial reports, interested persons can consult the document entitled "Statistiques sur les rapports financiers des partis politiques," which is notably available on the website of the Chief Electoral Officer at www.electionsquebec.qc.ca.

Wanted: A Major Democracy Player in the Saint-Laurent Electoral Division

 

Quebec City, January 18, 2010 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec has launched a recruitment campaign to fill the position of returning officer in the Saint-Laurent electoral division of Québec. The campaign is looking to appoint a major democracy player whose mandate will be to represent the Chief Electoral Officer in this electoral division Main duties will include organizing and holding electoral events such as general elections and by-elections. The deadline for submitting applications is February 5, 2010. The returning officer, who will be selected in an impartial three-stage process, will be appointed for a 10-year period.
