Summary
If you live in or are temporarily staying in a remote area or in an isolated community, you may qualify for special measures that would enable you to limit your travel.
You may be able to:
- Register on the list of electors or change your entry in a mobile polling station in a remote location, if a team travels to your area.
- Register or change your entry on the list of electors online or by fax.
- Vote by mail.
You may also benefit from these measures if you are temporarily in such an area or community, for example because you are staying in a workers’ camp.
Check to see if you will be able to use these measures during the next election period.
No special measures are available for the current by-election.

You must be on the list of electors at your home address if you want to vote. Here are three easy ways to check:
- Online, at Check your entry on the list of electors
- On the notice of entry you received in the mail during the election period
- By contacting us
Voting at a mobile polling station in a remote area
The returning officer may establish a mobile polling station in a remote area, in large workers’ camps and isolated communities where the number of electors justifies it. If you go to this polling station, you can be entered or update your entry on the list of electors and vote.
Be entered on the list of electors or change your address by mail, email, or fax
To submit an application:
- contact your electoral division’s returning officer to obtain the application form to be entered or to make changes to your entry on the list of electors;
- fill out and sign the form;
- return it to your electoral division’s returning officer by mail, email, or fax; The returning officer must receive it no later than [jour -4], at 2:00 p.m.
Voting by mail in an eligible area
Electors can vote by mail in certain isolated areas. To use this option, you must:
- meet the conditions for voting;
- be entered on the list of electors at your domiciliary address no later than [jour -14].
You can register:
- online, using the Application to register to vote by mail in eligible areas service;
- by sending us the Application to register to vote by mail in eligible areas form (PDF) by mail to the address indicated on the document. You can also send it to us via secure email or by fax at 418-646-3829.

Once you are registered, you will receive the necessary materials and instructions to vote by mail.
We must receive your ballot paper by 8:00 p.m. on [jour 0]. You are responsible for the cost of mailing your ballot paper.
