You are in another electoral division

Summary

Are you travelling in another electoral division? If that electoral division is also voting, you can vote there for a candidate in your home electoral division.

Voting outside your electoral division is a useful option in several situations:

  • You are hunting in a territory located outside of your electoral division.
  • You are a truck driver or a worker passing through another region.
  • You are staying with friends or family members who live in another electoral division.

During the election period, you can visit the office of the returning officer of the electoral division you will be in on one of the five days scheduled for this type of vote. During a general election, full details will be posted on this page.

In a by-election, you can only vote in an electoral division where an election is being held.

You can go to the office of the returning officer of the electoral division you are in.

This office is open:

  • [jour -10] from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • [jour -9] from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • [jour -6] from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • [jour -5] from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • [jour -4] from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Election officers will provide you with the list of candidates for the electoral division of your domicile, as well as a ballot paper. You will be able to vote for the candidate of your choice.

What is a domicile?

Your domicile is the place you consider to be your main residence. This is generally the address you use on your tax return and where you receive your official communications.

Good to know

If you need to be added to the list of electors or if you moved and need to update your entry, you can do so at the office of the returning officer of the electoral division you will be in. Note that this is not possible during the advance poll or on election day.
