You are unable to leave your domicile for health reasons

Summary

If you are unable to move about for health reasons, you can vote at your domicile.

To vote at your domicile or at the domicile of your informal caregiver, you must submit a request to your returning officer two weeks before Election Day.

To vote at your domicile or at the domicile of your informal caregiver, you must submit a request to your returning officer before [jour -14].

If your informal caregiver wishes to vote at the same time as you, you must include them in your request.

How to request to vote at your domicile

Once an election has been called, full details will be posted on this page.

Contact the returning officer of your electoral division by [jour -14], using one of the following methods:

  • Telephone
  • Fax
  • Mail

You do not need to fill out a form. You must simply request to vote at your domicile.

Would you prefer to vote at the domicile of your informal caregiver? Follow the same process and specify that it will be at the domicile of your informal caregiver when submitting the request.

The returning officer will confirm the date and time the election team will visit to have you vote.

Lorsque cette équipe se rendra chez vous, vous devrez will be required to attest under oath (PDF) that you are unable to move about for health reasons.

Vote by the informal caregiver

Your informal caregiver can vote at the same time as you, whether you are voting at their domicile or at yours. You simply need to include them in your request and provide all required information about them by [jour -14].

If you are unable to submit your request to vote at your domicile yourself, your informal caregiver can do so on your behalf. You will, however, need to be able to identify yourself and take an oath when the team comes to have you vote.

Confirm your entry on the list of electors

To vote, you must be entered on the list of electors at the correct address. You can confirm your entry in three ways:

  1. Online, using the Check your entry on the list of electors service;
  2. On the notice of entry that you receive by mail during the first two weeks of the election period;
  3. By calling us at 1 888 ELECTION (1 888 353-2846)

Your name is not on the list of electors or you need to change your address?

You can indicate that you wish to be entered on the list of electors or to change your address when you submit your request to vote at your domicile or at the domicile of your informal caregiver.

You can also be entered or change your address in two other ways:

  1. Online, until [jour -14], using the Application for entry on or a change to the list of electors service;
  2. At the office of the returning officer, until [jour -4]. You can ask a relative, your spouse, or a person living with you to submit the request on your behalf.

To be entered on the list of electors or to change your address, you must establish your identity and domicile by presenting one or more supporting documents confirming your surname, given name, date of birth, and address.

For example, you can present your driver’s licence, which establishes your identity and your address at the same time. You can also present a health insurance card to establish your identity and an electricity bill to establish your address.

These are only given as examples. You can submit other proof confirming your address or identity for review by the election officers.
