Québec City, January 31, 2007 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, would like to inform those who would like to run in the upcoming school elections that they can be authorized immediately by the returning officer of their school board. This authorization enables them especially to receive contributions or incur loans to finance their political activities.
Section 206.6 of the Act Respecting School Elections states that from January 1st of an election year, an elector who would like to run as a candidate can apply for authorization to the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec who has delegated his power of authorization to the returning officer.
Anyone who has the right to be entered on the list of electors of the school board where he or she intends to run and who, on polling day, has been domiciled on the territory of the school board for at least six months, can run in the school election of November 4, 2007.
