Québec City, February 12, 2007 –– Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, wishes to inform Québec electors who are currently staying outside Québec that they can register effective immediately to avail themselves of voting by mail at the time of a general election, a by-election or a referendum.

Québec City, November 24, 2006 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec has launched a recruitment competition to fill the position of returning officer in the electoral divisions of Québec. The competition is aimed at appointing a major democracy player who will represent the Chief Electoral Officer in one of these electoral divisions mainly by organizing and holding electoral events such as general elections and by-elections. The deadline for submitting applications is December 18, 2006. The returning officer, who will be appointed for a 10-year tenure, will be selected in an impartial three-stage process.

Québec City, October 5, 2006 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, announces that the summary returns of election expenses for the by-election of April 10, 2006, in the electoral division of Sainte-Marie–Saint-Jacques, is now available.

Québec City, July 19, 2006 –– The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, would like to remind the public that only qualified electors who are registered on the list of electors can vote in the by-elections that are scheduled in the electoral divisions of Pointe-aux-Trembles and Taillon on Monday August 14, 2006. Me Blanchet would also like to mention that the revision of the list of electors in these electoral divisions will take place from July 24 to August 1, 2006.

Québec City, July 11, 2006 –– The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, would like to announce the swearing in of Mr Georges Roy, returning officer of Matapédia. In each electoral division in Québec, the returning officer performs all activities related to the holding of an Election or a referendum and ensures that the laws administered by the Chief Electoral Officer are being applied.

Here are some key dates for the election:

Québec City, June 21, 2006 – Following an investigation that led him to conclude that contributions were made to provincial political parties in violation of the Election Act, M^e Jean Moisan has recommended certain modifications to the rules governing political party financing. The report containing the conclusions of this inquiry and M^e Moisan's recommendations was published today by the Chief Electoral Officer, M^e Marcel Blanchet, who appointed M^e Moisan as an investigating commissioner last November.
