Financing of Québec political parties - The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec announces the setting up of a group in charge of examining political financing

Québec, April 28, 2005 – Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, announces that a group made up of representatives of the three parties with seats in the National Assembly will examine over the upcoming months the financing of political parties and will propose, if necessary, amendments to the Election Act. A proposal along these lines has been made to the Advisory Committee which includes representatives of the Liberal Party of Québec, the Parti québécois and the Action démocratique du Québec, who have agreed to implement the Chief Electoral Officer's recommendation.

Proceedings instituted by the Chief Electoral Officer - Guilty plea
Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, wishes to inform the public that a guilty plea was entered in a case concerning a violation of the Election Act. The case involved unauthorized publicity that was distributed in the electoral division of Nelligan during the election period leading up to the September 20, 2004 by-election.

Authorization of provincial political parties - Bill 64 has modified the conditions of authorization of a provincial political party
Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, wishes to inform the public that Bill 64, passed by the National Assembly on December 16, 2004, has modified the conditions of authorization and of maintaining the authorization of a new provincial political party found in the Election Act.

Legal proceedings under the Election Act - Action taken by the Chief Electoral Officer - Guilty plea
Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Québec’s Chief Electoral Officer, wishes to inform the general public that a guilty plea has been entered in a case concerning an offence under the Election Act. The case relates to a contribution paid to the Québec Liberal Party’s Pontiac Constituency Association in late 2003.

September 20, 2004 by-elections - 643 polling stations will be open on polling day
Within the context of the by-elections that will be held in the electoral divisions of Gouin, Laurier-Dorion, Nelligan and Vanier on Monday, September 20th, Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, wishes to announce that a total of 643 polling stations, spread out in 80 polling places will be open between 9:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on polling day.
