The Commission de la représentation électorale will hold public hearings in five more cities

The Commission de la représentation électorale, by way of its chairman, Mr. Marcel Blanchet, would like to announce that the schedule of public hearings has been adjusted to include New Richmond, Amqui, Rivière-du-Loup, Gatineau and Val-d'Or in the tour of the regions that the Commission will undertake beginning on March 6th. These changes in the schedule are in response to requests for a hearing made in recent days.

The Commission de la représentation électorale will hold public hearings in march and april 2001

To follow up on the tabling of its preliminary report entitled "Proposal for the delimitation of a new electoral map 2000", the Commission de la représentation électorale, by way of its chairman Mr. Marcel Blanchet, wishes to inform the population that public hearings will be held between March 6 and April 19, 2001 in seven regions of Québec. The schedule of public hearings appears at the end of this press release.

The Commission de la représentation électorale: tabling of the preliminary report entitled “proposal for the delimitation of a new electoral map 2000”

The Commission de la représentation électorale is tabling today its preliminary report entitled "Proposal for the delimitation of a new electoral map 2000". In summary, the Commission's report recommends maintaining the total number of electoral divisions at 125 and proposes changes to the boundaries of 71 of the current electoral divisions, while leaving the boundaries of the remaining 54 electoral divisions unchanged. The Commission de la représentation électorale (CRE) is made up of Mr. Marcel Blanchet, its Chairman, and two commissioners, Mr. Guy Bourassa and Mr. Marc-André Lessard.

A new electoral map on the horizon
Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Chairman of the Commission de la représentation électorale, announces that the work that will lead to the creation of Québec’s new electoral map started again on July 1, 2000. The Commission plans to table a preliminary report in the National Assembly around mid-December. This report, which will propose a new delimitation of the electoral divisions, will be the subject of a vast public consultation in early spring, 2001.

He also gave the total amount of the participation by the State in political financing for 1999.

Election in Masson
Mr. Jacques Girard, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, would like to announce that there will be 177 polling stations grouped in 22 polling places during the election that will be held on December 14 in the electoral division of Masson. These polling stations will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to allow electors to exercise their right to vote. All polling places will be accessible to handicapped persons.
