November 30, 1998 general election
The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec today made public a volume containing the summaries of the election expense returns of the parties and candidates that ran in the November 30, 1998 general election and the December 14th election in the electoral division of Masson.

Mr. Jacques Girard, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, would like to announce that there will be 177 polling stations grouped in 22 polling places during the election that will be held on December 14 in the electoral division of Masson. These polling stations will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to allow electors to exercise their right to vote. All polling places will be accessible to handicapped persons.

Following the death of Mr. Yves Blais, candidate for the Parti québécois, the election was postponed by fifteen days in this electoral division.

Pursuant to the Election Act, the counting of the votes will take place on November 30 after the polls close, namely starting at 8:00 p.m. However, Mr. Jacques Girard, Chief Electoral Officer, would like to emphasize that the results of this operation are not the official results. Indeed, the candidates are only declared elected after the addition of the votes, which will take place on the day after the election.

Mr. Jacques Girard, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, would like to notify electors allowed to vote by mail from their temporary residence in Florida that they can still send their ballot paper in time for the November 30 election. To do so, they can use the services of a courier firm that has promised to respect this deadline provided that envelopes are dropped off before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 1998 at one of the service points appearing on the enclosed list.

Mr. Jacques Girard, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, would like to remind the public that the Election Act requires that every school board give all the pupils of its schools a holiday on polling day. The Act also stipulates that every educational institution must grant leave to students who are electors. The educational institutions in question are private educational institutions, general and professional colleges, and universities.
