Under the Act respecting the election of the first commissioners of the new school boards and amending various legislative provisions, the Chief Electoral Officer has been entrusted with several responsibilities concerning the elections that will be held on June 14th of this year in the 60 French language school boards and in the 9 English language school boards of Québec.

School elections will be held on June 14th of this year in the 60 French language school boards and in the 9 English language school boards. These elections will be under the responsibility of Me François Casgrain, Chief Electoral Officer.

Me François Casgrain, Chief Electoral Officer, wishes to inform the public that it is not necessary to be a property owner or to pay school taxes to vote in the school elections that will be held on June 14th. All that is required is that the person be a qualified elector and that he be entered on the list of electors of the French language or English language school board of the place where the person is domiciled.

Me François Casgrain, Chief Electoral Officer, would like to announce that a notice providing information on the school elections will be mailed to every household in preparation for the elections that will be held on June 14th of this year. Mailing will take place from May 4 to 19, 1998.

Me François Casgrain, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, would like to inform those electors who, on March 1, 1998, do not have children admitted to a school of a school board that has jurisdiction over the territory of their domicile that they are entered on the list of electors of their French language school board. However, these persons can choose to vote in an English language school board at the school elections that will be held on June 14th of this year. This option must be exercised by no later than June 9, 1998.

Me François Casgrain, Chief Electoral Officer, today made public the names, addresses and telephone numbers of the returning officers who are responsible for organizing the first elections of the new school boards on June 14th of this year.

Me François Casgrain, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, would like to invite journalists to an information session during which he will outline the main stages of the election period for the school elections of June 14, 1998. Among other things, Me Casgrain will talk about the various aspects of registering on the list of electors of a French language or English language school board.
