Noteworthy facts

Women have had the right to vote in Québec since 1940. The first woman to be elected to the National Assembly was Marie-Claire Kirkland-Casgrain, for a by-election on December 14, 1961. During the general election held on September 4, 2012, Ms. Pauline Marois became the first woman to be elected Premier of Québec.
