In 1983, a working group made up of four election officials of Canadian electoral administrations was set up to examine the possibility of organizing a workshop that would be intended for the professionals of Canada’s electoral administrations. The objective would be to discuss the technical means put in place for the application of electoral legislations and the problems encountered.

Elections Ontario organized the first workshop, which was held in April 1985. Since then, workshops have been held according to needs, in principle every year. Québec has hosted workshops on six occasions, the last time being in 2007.

The subjects addressed during the workshops are decided during the Conference of Canadian Election Officials according to the events related to Canadian electoral news.
