Quebec City, November 6, 2013 –– In accordance with an order issued today by the government of Québec, the Chief Electoral Officer, Jacques Drouin, must hold two by-elections on Monday, December 9, 2013 in the electoral divisions of Outremont and Viau. Here are a few important dates for the electoral period:

–    Issue of the order                                                     November 6, 2013

–    Prohibition to engage in partisan publicity             from November 7 to 13, 2013

–    Filing of nomination papers                                     from November 8 at 2:00 pm to

                                                                                     November 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm

–    Revision of the electoral list                                     from November 18 to 26, 2013

–    Special revision                                                        from November 27 to December 5, 2013 until 2:00 pm

–    Advance polling                                                         December 1 and 2, 2013

–   Voting at the office of the returning

      officer                                                                         November 29 and 30 and December 3, 4 and 5, 2013 until 2:00 pm

–    Election day                                                              December 9, 2013

Electors may obtain all the information they may require as regards the unfolding of the electoral period by visiting the website of the Chief Electoral Officer at or by contacting the Information Centre of the Chief Electoral Officer. All information on the website will be assembled in a special window dedicated to by-elections. The information will appear under headings designed to be both complete and user friendly. The window contains information that will be updated on a regular basis during the electoral period.

From the website, it will be possible to consult the electoral calendar and press releases, to learn the name and office address of the returning officer, and to obtain certain data concerning the electoral division where polling is to take place, such as the number of electors and the electoral map.

Other information will be added to the website as the electoral period unfolds. In addition to the list of candidates, electors can verify if their name is on the list of electors and locate the boards of revisors and polling stations attributed to them, simply by entering the postal code and the civic address of their domicile in the space reserved for this end.

All this information is also available from the Information Centre of the Chief Electoral Officer, during the week from8:30 a.m.to6:00 p.m., and fromnoonuntil5:00 p.m.on weekends. These extended hours are in force from today for the duration of the electoral period. All requests for documents may be sent to the Information Centre as well.
